The CJRO Welcomes Tatiana Mayfield to Colorado!

New Lamont School of Music Faculty joins the band July 15

The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra is thrilled to be joined by Tatiana “LadyMay” Mayfield for their upcoming concert, “Ladies of Soul: Celebrating the Music of Aretha Franklin.” This performance, full of soul and jazz alike, will be an unforgettable evening at the beautiful outdoor Arvada Center Amphitheatre featuring Tatiana on vocals.

Refreshing and beautiful are how many have described the voice and persona of Tatiana “LadyMay” Mayfield, a jazz vocalist, musician, composer, and educator from Fort Worth, Texas. “LadyMay” (as she has been named) has been singing and playing jazz music since the tender age of thirteen. Since then, she has performed in various venues and festivals throughout the U.S., which in turn have earned her rave reviews from listeners and musicians in addition to numerous awards.

In 2017, LadyMay was awarded 2nd place in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocals Competition held at NJPAC in New Jersey. Also in 2017, she received the “Jazz Innovators Award” from Dallas, TX as part of Jazz Appreciation Month for her contributions in jazz education to young people in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Mayfield was also chosen as one of the twelve semi-finalists to compete in the prestigious 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition that was held in Washington, D.C before a legendary panel of judges.

As an educator, LadyMay recently was an adjunct instructor of voice for the University of North Texas and an adjunct professor of commercial voice at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, TX. This fall, she will begin her newly minted position as Assistant Professor of Contemporary Popular Music.

“I am very excited to join the Lamont School of Music at DU,” said LadyMay. “I believe it is a place where I can share my passion for creative and innovative musical ideas. I also want to inspire students to have a forward-thinking mindset when they enter the contemporary music marketplace. DU has an outstanding music program, and I am honored to have the opportunity to educate students alongside such an accomplished faculty. I’m also looking forward to sharing my love of bridging traditional, non-traditional, and modern musical styles with the use of different technologies with students.”

Don’t miss Tatiana Mayfield and the CJRO for this one night only, soul-filled concert. Tickets are now available for the show, happening July 15 at 7:30 pm at the Arvada Amphitheatre. We’ll see you there!
